GOSPEL TRUTH: How shall we Escape?

The Question with a plain Answer…..

Delivered from Sodom just before the destruction of that corrupt city, Lot was told, “Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed” (Gen.19:17, KJV). His life, along with the lives of his family members, depended on escaping “to the mountain” – or else they would be lost.

This one verse graphically illustrates the urgency of the gospel message. To be saved we must “escape to the mountain” – the hill where the Lord was crucified. Jesus Christ is the only Saviour, and “there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Our salvation is found in Christ and in His precious blood alone. We must reach the point where we understand that Christ died for our sins. Having done that, we must acknowledge that we are lost and perishing before a holy God and must ask Him to receive us on the basis of what His Son has done for us. Gripped by this thought, Samuel Martin penned the words printed below in his gospel hymn.

The Bible raises the question, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?” (Heb.2:3). The plain answer is that there can be no escape from judgment if we “neglect” to take advantage of what God has provided.

The Gospel bells give warning,
As they sound from day to day,
Of the fate which doth await them
Who for ever will delay.
”Escape thou for thy life!
Tarry not in all the plain;
Nor behind thee look, oh, never,
Lest thou be consumed in pain.”
